Laramie Fire Department Services

Fire Suppression

The Laramie Fire Department maintains a fleet of six firefighting units to suppress fires in Laramie. They also maintain command vehicles and a hazardous materials response trailer. The Fire Department responds to fires in Albany County through an agreement with the Rural Fire District #1. We also work cooperatively with several volunteer fire departments in our county.

Laramie has received high regard by the Insurance Service Organization rating our department at a "3", therefore, allowing commercial property owners to enjoy competitive fire insurance rates.

Emergency Medical Services

The Laramie Fire Department provides emergency medical services for Albany County through an agreement with Ivinson Memorial Hospital. All Laramie Fire Department personnel are certified emergency medical technicians. Personnel who are regularly assigned to a rotation
on the ambulance also hold certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. The department's goal is to become a Paramedic service in the near future. The fire department maintains five ambulances to provide EMS service to Laramie and Albany County. They also provide transport to other health care facilities within approximately 250 miles.

Hazardous Materials

The Laramie Fire Department responds to all hazardous material incidents within Fire District #1 and most of Albany County. We operate at a Hazmat Technician level out of a mobile command station. The Fire Department maintains a specialized response trailer that carries most necessary equipment for a hazardous material incident.

Child Car Seat Program

Automobile crashes are the number one causes of injury and death to children in the nation. In 1997, the Laramie Fire Department began participating in a Child Car Seat Program through funds granted by a community Well Aware Committee as well as the Wyoming Department of Transportation. Since that time funding has continued through grants, donations, and fund raisers. The Fire Department purchased an 18' enclosed trailer through a grant from the State of Wyoming to be used specifically for the child car seat program.

The Fire Department has checked over 2,500 child car seats in Albany County. Thirty-two firefighters have received an 8-hour training course and 15 are nationally certified as Child Car Seat Technicians. Two firefighters, Jim Hoflund, and Matt Stroot have received Technician Instructor certification.
