Welcome to the Laramie Police Department's
Patrol Division

The Patrol Division is the most visible division of the Laramie Police Department. Thirty of the forty-seven sworn personnel are assigned to this division. A Commander directs the Patrol Division. In addition to ensuring the logistical viability of the entire division, the Commander is also responsible for:

  • Report Review
  • Crime Analysis
  • Fleet Management
  • Administration of the K9 Program
  • Liquor Report

The Patrol Division is made up of three shifts - Day shift, Evening shift, and Midnight shift. The three shifts work 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. A 1996 reorganization of the department addressed a critical need of the department and now, with the creation of the sergeant positions, each shift has two sergeants in addition to 5-7 patrol officers. In 1999, the Patrol Division responded to 14,856 calls for service.

Additionally, patrol officers created 39,674 Quick Call Entries. Quick Calls refer to activity generated by the officers and include such activities as traffic stops, follow-up contacts, logging suspicious vehicles or people, logging faulty traffic devices, or report sessions.

In addition to handling calls for service, the Patrol Division is also responsible for:

  • Directed Patrol Acitivity
  • Traffic Enforcement
  • Warrant Detail
  • Special Events Coordination
  • Court Transport
  • Drug & Alcohol Detection Activities
  • COPS calls

There is also one Patrol Community Service Officer assigned to the Division. The Patrol CSO accomplishes a number of patrol-related duties that were traditionally handled by sworn officers prior to the creation of the CSO position in 1993. Primarily assigned to Day shift, the CSO has the responsibility for:

  • Fleet Management
  • Parking Enforcement
  • Non-Injury Accident Investigation
  • Investigation of misdemeanor "no suspect" calls
