Towing of Vehicles

The Laramie Police Department (LPD) does not personally tow any vehicles under any circumstances. The City does not provide this service. If circumstances require that a vehicle must be towed for a variety of reasons, the police emergency communications center, known as LARC, will contact a local approved private tow company from a rotation list to respond and handle the job.

The request for the tow will most frequently be made by a police department sworn officer or a non-sworn community service officer. Citizens may request a specific tow company be called. LARC will provide this service. It is necessary to tell the officer if in your presence. If the vehicle is towed and the owner/driver is not available the tow will be called from the rotation list.

The reason a tow is requested is generally for the removal of an abandoned vehicle, blockage of driveways or other traffic access points, prohibited parking under weather (snow) conditions, parking prohibited due to street work or traffic accidents. LPD does not set the tow rates. This is determined by the private tow company as are any subsequent storage lot fees. Any complaints as to tow fees or customer service should be directed to tow company management.
