Defensive Driving Education
Dismissing Your Citation
In order to not have a traffic infraction on your record you will be required to pay the bond amount on your citation by the court date the officer provides, which is located at the bottom of your citation. You will complete one of the four online defensive driving courses that have been preapproved by the court. Then, following completion of the course, you are responsible for returning the certificate of completion to the Laramie Municipal Court
within 60 days of the date the citation is paid, as long as it is paid by the court date located toward the bottom of the citation.
Program Regulations
- If you successfully comply with the completion of the course, the judge will dismiss your citation. You will be permitted to have this option once a year.
- The court office will not follow up with you if you are late. If you have not completed the course in the 60 days, the court office will automatically send the certified disposition to the State of Wyoming Department of Transportation and it will be reported on your driving record.
- There will be no continuances or extra time given to complete the course, so be sure to not wait until the last minute and give yourself and the company ample time to get the certificate mailed to you.
- When you pay your citation, inform the court you are interested in taking an online defensive driving course and, if you qualify, the court will provide you with the web addresses for the approved online traffic courses.
- You must get prior approval from the Laramie Municipal Court to complete the course, since it is only offered for certain minor traffic violations.
Note: You must inform the court at the time the citation is paid if you are interested in completing the course. This also includes if the citation is paid via phone.
