A bond is the amount of money it would take to release you from jail, in the event you were arrested. This is also the amount of money you will need to pay if you do not want or need to appear in court. A bond also ensures your appearance in court. If you fail to appear and a bond was posted in your case, that bond may be forfeited to the State of Wyoming, meaning you or the person who posted it will not receive that money back.

Bond amounts are set by the Wyoming Supreme Court and the Laramie Municipal Court Judge. These amounts are based on the severity of the fine.

How do I post a bond?

You can post a bond at the Laramie Municipal Court Office during normal business hours. If it is after business hours or the weekend, you may post the bond at the Albany County Detention Center.

How do I get my money back?

First and foremost, our office will not give you a cash refund.

If marked “yes” on the Appearance Bond form, the bond will be applied towards the defendant’s fines, with any remaining amount being refunded back to the person who posted the bond.

If marked “No” on the Appearance Bond form, the bond will be refunded back to the person who posted it. This will be in the form of a check and it will be mailed out to the poster’s address that we have on the Appearance Bond form. If there is any information that needs to be changed on the bond, the poster must contact the court to get it changed.

If the defendant was arrested because of a warrant, the money that is posted must go towards the defendant’s fines.

Appearance Bond Conditions

If you need to modify any conditions of your bond, please fill out a Bond Modification Form and submit it to the court during normal business hours. If not during normal business hours, you may drop off the form in our drop box located outside our office. Please note that this does NOT approve your modification. Your request must be approved by the Municipal Court Judge.
