Bonds
If a person is arrested by a police officer, the Judge may require they post a bond to secure their release from the Albany County Detention Center.

Bond amounts are set by the Wyoming Supreme Court and the Municipal Judge and are based on the severity of the charge.

How do I post a bond?

Posting a Bond
  • During normal business hours 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Monday - Friday, bonds may be posted at the Laramie Municipal Court office in City Hall.
  • After hours, bonds should be posted at the Albany County Detention Center at 420 E. Ivinson St.
  • Bonds must be posted in cash or certified funds.
  • If you are posting a bond for someone else on a new citation you may decide if the money can be used towards fines or if it should be returned to you at the completion of the case.
  • If you are posting a bond for yourself or on a warrant the funds must be usable towards fines.

If you are posting a bond on a new citation, the bond will remain posted until the defendant is found guilty, not guilty or the charge is dismissed and no further court hearings are set.

If you are posting a bond on a warrant the funds must be used towards fines at the conclusion of the case.

How do I get my money back?
  • If you requested the money be returned to you at the completion of the case, a check will be mailed to you after the final hearing.
  • If you requested the money be used towards fines, any remaining funds will be mailed to you after the final hearing.
  • The Municipal Court cannot give you a cash refund.

If at any point the defendant fails to appear for a scheduled court hearing, the full amount of the bond will be forfeited to the State of Wyoming and a warrant will be issued for his or her arrest. You will not receive the bond back.

If you would like to change information on a bond that you posted, please fill out the Bond Change form and turn it in to the Municipal Court Office. You must bring a State Issued identification card.
