Municipal Court
Responsibilities & Services
The City of Laramie's Municipal Court only deals with misdemeanor charges. This court deals specifically with citations issued by the
City of Laramie Police Department and the
University of Wyoming Police Department.
Contesting a Ticket / Ticket Dismissal
If you are concerned with a traffic violation affecting your insurance, the Laramie Municipal Court offers a
Defensive Driving Education course. You are only permitted to take the class once every 12 months. If you would like to contest a traffic citation, you must appear in court during arraignments and plead not guilty. At that time the case will be set for trial for a future date.
Please note that if you are issued a traffic citation, that is not a "must appear" citation, you may pay at the court office during business hours, by mail, or by paying over the phone with a credit/debit card. If you pay for any citation with a credit/debit card a $2 fee will be added to your total.
Additional Information
Our court has one part-time judge, Tony S. Lopez. The Municipal Court judge is only available to discuss citations during arraignments and scheduled court dates. The judge does, however, accept letters regarding citations and cases, but only if an individual lives outside of Laramie and is unable to appear in court.
Any payments that are due on a day the court office is closed will automatically be due the following business day. Filing from attorney’s offices is taken Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
