Information
Laramie Police Department is accepting applications for the first Community Academy. This new program is designed to help participants gain a better understanding of the police profession and specifically your local police.
The requirements to attend the academy are minimal:
- Ability to sit for up to three hours in a classroom environment
- Ability and willingness to participate in classes that are more physical in nature (i.e. firearms overview, custody and control demonstration, and scenario simulator)
- Desire to share information and experiences with other community members. Since class sizes are limited, priority will be given to Laramie residents.
- Time commitment- The academy will be held on Thursday evenings, 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, beginning October 5th and concluding November 16th. The community members who are selected to attend are expected to make the commitment to attend all training sessions.
- The Chief of Police may reject any applicant due to criminal history, law enforcement contacts, or any indication the applicant may be disruptive to the class.
We want this to be a positive experience for all participants, including the instructors. The academy setting is not the appropriate place to actively dispute policies or procedures of Laramie Police; however, we do welcome questions and constructive discussion. We value the opportunity to learn from your experiences and perspectives.
