The Code Enforcement Division functions primarily to investigate and enforce ordinances pertaining to offensive growth, trash, junk, and junked vehicles located on private property and property owners failing to clear their sidewalks of ice and snow following a snowfall.
General Nuisance Ordinance Regulations
- Junk and junked vehicles - The owner or occupier of a property has the duty to remove all abandoned, discarded, or unused items described as "junk" or "junked vehicles" from their property as described in Section 8.32.170 of the Laramie Municipal Code.
- Offensive growth - The owner or occupier of a property has the duty to remove all dead trees and limbs, weeds and tall grass over 6 inches tall and any growth which obstructs street, alley, or sidewalk traffic from their property as described in Section 8.28.030 of the Laramie Municipal Code.
Offenders of the Offensive Growth, Junk, and Junked Vehicle Code will be notified by mail of their violation. If the offender fails to respond or take corrective action, a second notice will be mailed giving the offender a deadline to take corrective action. If the offender fails to take appropriate action by the deadline given, the code enforcement inspector may hire a contractor to correct the violation and the property owner will be charged the amount of the contractor's charges plus a 20% administration fee.
- Removal of Snow, Ice & Debris from Sidewalks - Owners, occupiers, or property managers have the duty to keep the sidewalk adjacent to their properties clear of snow, ice, mud, dirt, rubbish or filth as described in Section 12.08.020 of the Laramie Municipal Code. Offenders will be notified of their violation. If the owner, occupier, or property manager fails to take appropriate action within 48 hours, the code enforcement inspector may take further measures to correct the problem.
