Number of Members- The Board of Health shall consist of five (5) members.

Term- Each member shall hold office for a five (5) year term.

Eligibility- Any qualified elector of the city may apply. One member of the board must possess the degree of Doctor of Medicine and one member must possess the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery.

Appointment/Reappointment- Members may apply to be reappointed to the Board of Health at the end of their term by resubmitting an application to the City Council.

Board Functions

Charge or Purpose: The purpose of the Board of Health is to address issues of concern regarding health and the control of communicable diseases in the Laramie community.

Authority: Laramie Municipal Code Chapter 2.20, LMC Section 8.08, LMC 8.12 & Title 8, W.S. § 35-1-302, W.S. 35-7-110

Duties/Responsibilities: To set rules and regulations governing their own affairs, to set the duties of the City of Laramie Health Officer, to manage and control all communicable diseases, as well as to prescribe and fix penalties for violation of prescribed rules and regulations.

By-Laws Board of Health adopted by City Council Resolution 2022-11 on January 18, 2022. 


Pursuant to statutory requirements notice is hereby given that the City of Laramie Board of Health and City Council will accept comments from interested persons for a period of forty five (45) days on the below described proposed changes to the Board of Health Bylaws dated November 18, 2021.  The first date of publication is December 1, 2021 and the final day comments on the proposed changes will be accepted by the City Clerk is January 17, 2022 at 5:00 p.m.  The Public Hearing on the proposed changes will be held via Zoom, Meeting ID # 880 7407 6808 Passcode: 443213, on January 18, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. followed by the regular meeting of the City Council.

The following changes were proposed to remove language pertaining to City Public Health Officer since it has not been used is many years, clear up language for fees to reflect the proper authorities in which those are amended or set by, changes to reflect current procedures, addition of licensing requirements for artists, and clarification about where potted plants are permissible.

Chapter IV. Section 3. Body Artist Licensing. C. The artist or temporary license applicant must provide proof of attendance/completion of a blood borne pathogen/universal precaution class or equivalent approved by the Environmental Health Specialist and renewal at a minimum of every three years.

Chapter IV. Section 4.J. There shall be no potted plants in the body art or piercing procedure area. Potted plants shall be allowed in waiting rooms and nonprocedural areas.
