The City of Laramie Parks & Recreation Department is excited to present a new personal challenge to our members and multi-pass holders! In honor of Laramie’s 150th Anniversary, we present “Run the Rails,” an interactive fitness challenge open to people of all ages, where you can earn miles travelling across the country following the historic Overland Rail Route.
The railroad arrived in Laramie on May 4th, 1868 as it made it’s way from New York to San Francisco. This historic event founded our town and brought modern amenities to the high plains prarie.
Begin your excursion as you Run the Rails with us on February 15th by registering and picking up your official challenge packet. You can register on-line by visiting the cityoflaramie.org/runtherails, where you can find all the information you’ll need to get started and join us for the fun, or stop by the Recreation Center where our staff will help get you registered. There is no cost to register, so don’t lose any time, registration opens February 11th.
You’ll travel across the country as you visit the Recreation Center and earn miles for your activities and exercise. Each time you visit, record your miles and have staff initial your tracking card to verify your visit. On your route, you’ll stop at important stations along the way, earning fun rewards. When you arrive in San Francisco, you’ll earn your commemorative Run the Rails sport t-shirt and turn in your completed Boarding Pass to be entered into a drawing for an annual membership to the Recreation Center. Run the Rails will take place from February 15 to October 31st. You’ll earn 3,080 miles on this journey, a challenge that will push you to have fun and get fit!
