WAM honors Interfaith-Good Samaritan with 2019 Community Hero Award.

On June 13, 2019 Mike Vercauteren & Sue Sandeen from Interfaith-Good Samaritan attended the Wyoming of Municipalities summer banquet to receive the 2019 WAM Community Hero Award.  The Community Hero Award honors people in communities that support community enhancement projects and recognizes individuals or groups who give back to their community.

Interfaith-Good Samaritan has served the Albany County community since 1987 and has grown significantly to keep up with the increased number of people living in poverty and because of changes in social service delivery and policy. They are heavily staffed with volunteers and their board of directors is also staffed by volunteers. Interfaith-Good Samaritan assists Albany County residents with rent, utilities, bus passes, gas passes (to sustain employment and for out of town dental and medical appointments), and emergency dedication assistance when no other help is available. Interfaith also assists people stranded in Albany County with emergency lodging, food, fuel, and transportation to shelters. They also use some of their funding to purchase food for the
community pantry.
