Building Department (Code Administration)
In Laramie, Wyoming, the Code Administration Division oversees contractor licenses, building permits, plan reviews, and inspections. The purpose of the Code Administration Division is to protect the health and safety of the public by regulating the construction, alteration, repair, demolition, and moving of buildings and structures within the city.
The City of Laramie follows the International Residential Code for One-and Two-Family Dwellings, International Building Code, International Existing Building Code, International Mechanical Code, International Plumbing Code, International Fuel Gas Code, and the International Energy Conservation Code, all are adopted as published by the International Code Council; the most recent issued edition of the National Electrical Code, published by the National Fire Protection Association, are hereby adopted with certain amendments, additions and deletions thereto found to be in the best interest of the residents of the city.

Contractor Licensing
All general contractors working in Laramie are required to be licensed. In addition, trade contractors - including those specializing in electrical, mechanical, plumbing, lawn sprinkler, fire protection, gas service, water and sewer, refrigeration, and petroleum or petroleum piping - must also hold a valid City of Laramie contractor license. Code Update Discussion
On December 12, 2025, The City of Laramie Code Administration Department hosted a Contractor Discussion Meeting if you missed the meeting you can view it here.
The goal of this meeting was to review potential updates to the International Building Code as adopted by the City of Laramie as suggested by contractors working in the community. These updates will address areas where the local code can differ from the International Building Codes, helping ensure that local building regulations better support contractors working in Laramie.
It is not too late to make your suggestions known. Check out this informational letter for additional information on this Discussion and a link to the survey to submit your own suggestions. The Survey will remain open until January 5, 2026.
Applying for permits or licenses:
All permit applications - along with all new contractor licenses and contractor license renewals - must be submitted through the City of Laramie Civic Access Portal.
