How the City of Laramie Provides Support for a Fun, Safe Laramie Jubilee Days
The City of Laramie is thrilled for the annual Laramie Jubilee Days, where residents have the unique opportunity to experience Wyoming’s history. The annual event draws a large crowd from all over the state, the U.S., and even other countries. While it’s a week of fun activities that greatly stimulate Laramie’s economy and culture, it involves teamwork and coordination of City staff to help ensure this celebration of Wyoming’s statehood is successful.
For 85 years, Laramie Jubilee Days has been a celebration of all things Wyoming. In 1940, the first Laramie Jubilee Days celebration was held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Wyoming’s Statehood on July 10, 1890. Then known as “Equality Days,” events included a fiddlers’ contest, chariot races, and a giant parade. The following year, the event turned into a three-day celebration, renamed to Laramie Jubilee Days. It has evolved to include activities like street dances, parades, downtown food and beer festivals, and the rodeo.
This year, from July 5-13, Laramie will become a bustling city with residents and visitors enjoying various events that showcase and celebrate Wyoming’s history and cowboy culture. While event details are organized by the Laramie Jubilee Days committee, a City of Laramie staff team has a big hand in coordinating the event. To ensure a successful week of events, this team includes staff members from various departments, including Parks & Recreation and Solid Waste.
This City crew assists with the planning and execution of Laramie Jubilee Days by ensuring alcohol permits are completed and procedures are followed, coordinating the rodeo logistics, downtown access, and carnival wristbands. In addition, the City assures that safety measures are in place with the Laramie Fire Department and Street Division Staff. They mitigate trash by placing many receptacles, maintained by the Solid Waste staff, throughout the event space. To keep everyone safe, the Laramie PD patrols all events.
The City of Laramie anticipates another exciting lineup of events during this year’s Laramie Jubilee Days, and the City requests that residents help keep the week fun and safe for all by adhering to safety guidelines that are in place for everyone’s enjoyment of the event.
