[ARCHIVED] Laramie Fire Department Shows Support

Light the Night

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Laramie Fire Department Invites Residents to Light Up Red During Light the Night

The Laramie Fire Department (LFD) is joining the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation for Light the Night on May 4th to honor and remember the sacrifice of America’s fallen fire heroes. Light the Night occurs in coordination with National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, during which landmarks, fire departments, community organizations, businesses, and homes across the nation light up red from April 27th through May 4th.

This year marks the third annual Light the Night that the Laramie Fire Department will participate in. LFD will once again illuminate Fire Station #1 with red lights on May 4th as a visual display of support for fallen firefighters in Laramie and across the country. In joining the tribute, LFD is included on the national map with other communities that will glow red at nightfall to honor and remember firefighters who were lost in the line of duty.

Lighting up red for these few days honors those who have lost their lives keeping Laramie’s community safe. It is a dedicated time to remember these fallen heroes while also paying respect for the sacrifice firefighters make every day as they conduct their service to our communities. Light the Night comes just two months after three LFD firefighters were injured while responding to a structural fire in Albany County.

“On February 28, LFD Engine 3 was dispatched to a reported structure fire north of Laramie. During operations, a structural collapse occurred involving the fireplace assembly, resulting in injuries to two firefighters inside. After the [initial] collapse a second collapse occurred during rescue efforts injuring another firefighter. They were transported to Ivinson Memorial Hospital by LFD ambulances. Two firefighters were treated and released for their injuries, while one required further medical attention and was transported by air to Medical Center of the Rockies for additional treatment,” said LFD in a previous press release.

This unfortunate accident is a stark reminder of the various dangers and risks firefighters assume every day on the job. Accidents like this can, and do, hit close to home and LFD encourages Laramie residents to join in honoring those who have lost their lives to keep the community safe.

“The Laramie Fire Department truly appreciates the outpouring of well wishes, comments, cards, letters, donations, and support provided to our Firefighters as they navigate recovery from their injuries. The path to recovery is long for all three, but with the support we have received locally and from around the world, they will be successful on their journey,” says LFD Shift Commander, Kevin Lam.

A few ways the Laramie community can get involved in National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend include lighting their own homes or businesses in red by swapping porch or exterior lights for red light bulbs, sharing support on social media by using the hashtag #NFFFLightTheNight2025, and recognizing the hard work and sacrifice of firefighters in their own lives.
