Landfill Voucher Applications Now Open

With Spring in the air Laramie residents will begin tackling Spring cleaning chores and yard work. The City of Laramie encourages all Albany County residents to apply for a free Landfill Voucher that permits one free trip to dispose of trash and unwanted or damaged items, and recyclables at the landfill. Residents can apply for a voucher through August 1st by visiting www.cityoflaramie.org/voucher.

A voucher is good for up to 2.5 cubic yards of waste: this is roughly the size of a full-size pickup truck bed. With a voucher, residents can take their one full truckload of waste or recyclables to the landfill for free from May 5th until September 20th. Vouchers are only available for a limited time, don’t delay and miss your opportunity to apply!

“Here at the City Solid Waste department, we are often asked, ‘what happened to the free dump day?’ This landfill voucher program has replaced that day, and unlike the free dump day, which was only one day a year, residents now get to pick a day throughout the summer that’s most convenient for them,” says City of Laramie Solid Waste Manager, JR Slingerland.

When planning a free trip to the landfill, residents should be mindful of accepted materials and best practices. Acceptable landfill materials include trash, construction debris, and recyclables such as cardboard, paper, plastic bottles, and jars. The City reminds residents that all loads must be properly secured or covered to prevent litter during transport.

Additionally, any household hazardous waste, such as oil-based paints and stains, asbestos, contaminated soil, dead animals, tires, refrigerators, and other similar waste is not covered by a voucher. Instead, household hazardous waste should be brought in by appointment for no charge. Other items always free of charge include e-waste, glass recycling, green waste drop off, metal drop off, and some battery recycling.

“By using a voucher residents can help keep Laramie, and all of Albany County, looking a little nicer – and for free,” says Slingerland. “It’s a great way to dispose of unwanted items at home, and keep our community clean this spring and summer.”

The free landfill voucher program is available for residential use only, no commercial or business addresses will be permitted. This program isn’t just for homeowners, if you rent your home or apartment, you are welcome to apply too! You will have to provide proof of residence, such as a utility bill or state issued ID with an Albany County address. Only one voucher will be issued for each household, make sure to keep it in a secure place, lost vouchers will not be replaced.

Apply for a free Landfill Voucher now at www.cityoflaramie.org/voucher. Vouchers may be redeemed from May 5th through September 20th
