City of Laramie Provides Construction Updates for Spring and Summer Seasons
The City of Laramie has released upcoming construction projects to look out for this summer, plus resources and maps to help residents plan and navigate their routes and daily commutes around Laramie.
The City of Laramie Engineering Division has developed an interactive map that outlines and visually displays both ongoing and upcoming construction projects. This map is the best way for residents to stay informed on City construction projects as it is accurate and regularly updated. View the map online at https://cityoflaramie.org/constructionstorymap.
Additionally, the City’s Engineering Division has created a separate street closure map that allows community members to view and stay informed on any road closures in Laramie. Specifically, the map displays current and pending road closures and right-of-way obstructions as well as detours around those closures. The street closure map can be viewed online at http://cityoflaramie.org/roadclosuresmap.
“Keeping residents informed during construction projects is essential for a harmonious process. By staying updated on project timelines, potential disruptions, and alternative routes, residents can plan their daily lives more effectively. Together, with patience and cooperation, we can navigate construction challenges and ensure the success of infrastructure improvements in our community,” says City Engineer, Eric Jaap.
There are several projects on the horizon in the upcoming months, including:
- North Tank Project Completion: This summer, we will be completing the North Tank Project. This important effort includes a new water tank on the north side of town and a new water line along the northern edge of Laramie. These improvements will help support future growth and ensure a reliable water supply to developing areas.
- Annual Sewer and Storm Sewer Maintenance: As part of our ongoing maintenance program, we will continue installing cured-in-place pipe linings in sanitary and storm sewer lines to extend their service life without major excavation.
- Chip and Fog: As part of our annual street maintenance program, the City will complete chip and fog sealing on several streets across Laramie. This work extends the life of existing pavement by sealing surface cracks, improving traction, and providing a refreshed roadway surface. In total, approximately 64,808 square yards of roadway will receive chip and fog seal treatment this year. This work helps preserve our infrastructure investment and reduce the need for more costly repairs in the future.
- Corthell Hill Sewer Line Installation: We are installing a new sewer line in the Corthell Hill area to support upcoming development, including the future Bill Nye Avenue extension project, in collaboration with WYDOT. While the roadway project will begin in the next year or so, it is critical that sewer infrastructure is ready in advance to serve future development in south Laramie.
- Ivinson Avenue Improvements (6th Street to 15th Street): This summer, we will begin improvements along Ivinson Avenue from 6th Street to 9th Street, including the installation of a new sewer line to address capacity issues, followed by milling and placing a new asphalt surface. While this section will not undergo full street reconstruction, these upgrades will significantly enhance utility capacity and roadway conditions. Looking ahead, we are preparing for a full reconstruction of Ivinson Avenue from 9th Street to 15th Street, which will include replacing aging underground utilities and completely rebuilding the street. These projects are part of our long-term plan to upgrade the full length of Ivinson Avenue and support the needs of the community.
