FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

City of Laramie Anticipates 4th of July Community Events

The 4th of July is always a celebratory time in Laramie. The City of Laramie is eager to see the community come out and enjoy all the Independence Day festivities. Laramie residents and visitors alike can expect two beloved events to return this summer as we celebrate the 4th of July: Freedom Has a Birthday and Fire in the Sky.

Freedom Has a Birthday; Presented by Rocky Mountain Power

This year is the 34th anniversary of Freedom Has a Birthday, presented by Rocky Mountain Power. Deemed, ‘An Old-Fashioned 4th of July Celebration for the Family,’ this free, family-friendly, alcohol-free occasion celebrates America’s freedom and attracts over 10,000 visitors to Washington Park. It’s a summer event that can’t be missed.

On July 4th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., attendees can enjoy live music, carnival-like activities, food, and a variety of organizational, demonstration, and retail booths. This year we will be adding an area specifically for Arts and Crafts booths where artists can be grouped together to sell their items. The area will be located on the north of the park near the wading pool area.

The Laramie Municipal Band will play at the Edgar J. Lewis Band Shell at 10:15, following opening ceremonies. Danno from Wyo takes the Main Stage at noon followed by Altered Image Blues Band at 2:15. For even more music the Backstop Stage will feature Box of Rocks at noon and the Gem City Drifter at 2:00.

As with most years in Freedom Has a Birthday’s past, the Laramie Fire Department will host hose-downs from their fire engine at 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm. In addition to the hose downs, the Masonic Temple is providing free ice cream cones from Meadow Gold Dairy, and the City will have set up an inflatable obstacle course and an Airbound spider bungee trampoline. Of course, the Washington Park playgrounds and wading pool will be available for the kiddos too.

Fire in the Sky; Presented by WyoTech

Finish the 4th of July evening with Fire in the Sky, presented by WyoTech. This incredible fireworks display consists of over 300 aerial shells, ranging in diameter from three to eight inches. The show is an Independence Day blast (pun intended) that’s sure to impress. Fireworks begin at approximately 9 pm at Harney and 22nd Street.

The City of Laramie partners with WyoTech to bring this exciting firework show to the community. In addition to sponsorship, WyoTech students and staff volunteer their time to help make the event big and bright for all. From cleanup after the show to participating in the 4th of July festivities, it’s a great way for WyoTech students to connect with the Laramie community.

To enjoy the 4th of July to the fullest while still respecting residential neighborhoods, the City reminds event goers to follow event parking guidelines. As you plan and prepare for the day, note where you should park for Freedom Has a Birthday and Fire in the Sky. 22nd Street from Harney to Willet will be closed during the show, as well as Harney from Television Road to 22nd, Armory Road from 30th to 22nd, and Television Road from Harney to Armory. The City recommends Kiowa Park, Scout Park, Washington Park, and LaPrele Park as some of the better viewing areas in town.
